Australian Prime Minister Paul Keating called an election for Mar 13, 1993. If the Labor Party wins it will be its fifth term in power. A poll shows the Liberal-National opposition, led by John Hewson, is more popular. Australia's economic and social problems problems discourage public confidence in its leaders. Stars fail to shine for Keating

Article Abstract:

Australian prime minister Paul Keating has been campaigning extensively in marginal constituencies in the run-up to the forthcoming general election. Securing these constituencies could have a key influence on the outcome of the voting and on the prime minister's political future. Opinion polls indicate that the ruling Labor party is currently six points behind the opposition, which could mean defeat.
