Management survivors seek more training
Article Abstract:
Those managers who have survived the downsizing and corporate delayering undertaken by many companies in the UK have generally found that they now have more responsibilities. Job insecurity has become more common, with more managers now being employed on a contract, interim or temporary basis. Managers are increasingly aware that they will need to have more flexible and transferable skills if they are to survive in the competitive business climate of the 21st century. However, they often disagree with their employers about their training needs. For this reason, a personal training and development budget may be appropriate.

Training - a good investment
Article Abstract:
It is common for managers in the UK to undertake little or no training, according to research by the Institute of Management and Cambridge University, England. It is now time for companies to realize that regularly updating their employees' knowledge can make a significant contribution to maintaining or improving competitiveness and ensuring that employees remain motivated. Many professional organizations recognize that managers may fail to update their knowledge, and for this reason demand that members undertake several days of approved training each year.

Managers in a different class
Article Abstract:
The UK now has a very extensive executive education and training industry. Some companies uses outside providers to introduce new managers to basic skills such as leadership and communication, while others use providers in areas such as team working and creative thinking. Some managers choose to address their own training requirements, possibly through a part-time or distance learning Master's programme, often supported by their employer.
