Mapping the sixth sense

Article Abstract:

Research indicates that blind people are able to react without consciousness to an auditory cue, 'mapping' the locality of a sound before they actually hear it. It is believed that blind people are able to hear peripheral sounds very effectively became their brains have taken over parts of the parietal lobes that are normally sensitive only to vision. Blind people appear to retain the original parietal connections to the ear, as well as reallocating the visual ones to give them even greater auditory acuity.

How to reverse the irreversible

Article Abstract:

Norm UK, a charity which campaigns against circumcision, is encouraging British men who feel that they have been damaged by circumcision to try a method developed by Californian psychologist Jim Bigelow for 'redeveloping' the foreskin. This involves using small metal weights attached to the penis with sticky tape, and is based on the principle of tissue expansion. Many medical experts in the UK now believe that circumcision is a cruel, damaging procedure which is almost never necessary.

Return of the water cure

Article Abstract:

According to Thermalia Travel, spa resort specialist, there has been a 1000% increase in the number of UK customers since 1991. The practice of immersion in spa waters and of drinking spa waters is a revival of an old tradition, dating back almost 30 centuries, with cities such as Bath developing around spas. In the 17th and 18th Centuries, people from the upper classes used spas as a treatment, but the development of medicines led to the practice becoming less common.
