Offshore centres still cloaked in mystery

Article Abstract:

Guernsey, Jersey and the Isle of Man are all confident that the review of their offshore financial shelters being undertaken by the UK government will not uncover any irregularities. They emphasize that they already regulate financial services activities very closely and that they are not a target for money launderers. Jersey has even taken its efforts to reinforce its respectability as far as to state that it will register only leading companies and banks.

Banks and small firms call a truce

Article Abstract:

Banks and small business in the United Kingdom appear to have improved their relationship since the recession of the early 1990s. Banks received criticism in the recession, but small companies often did not keep adequate financial records. The government is seeking to change the attitude of banks, but also aims to improve the financial management of small business. Companies could, however, be affected by higher costs from measures such as the minimum wage.
