Mid-East on brink of 'historic' peace deal
Article Abstract:
A breakthrough has been achieved in negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians. A final obstacle to a pact was removed when the Palestinians agreed to the release of fewer than the 400 prisoners that they had originally sought. This breakthorugh means that a new version of the Wye agreement can be signed. The Wye agreement was originally signed by former Israeli prime minister, Binyamin Netanyahu, but he did not implement the deal. New Israel prime minister, Ehud Barak, has agreed to remove Israeli troops from part of the West bank, allow a port to be built in Gaza, allow two safe passages from Gaza to the West Bank, and release 350 prisoners.

Israel is gripped by the curse of '67
Article Abstract:
The Israeli government is still attempting to absorb part of the land which it captured during the Six-Day War in Jun 1967. This victory created many enemies for Israel, and has meant that confrontation with Palestine has dominated Israeli politics. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu now seems to have rejected the Oslo accords of 1993, and appears to believe that Israel can retain control over most of the land which it captured in 1967. However, in the long term his policy assumes a state of endless confrontation between the Palestinians and Jews living in Gaza, Israel and the West Bank.

Fatah leader warns world to expect a wave of retaliation suicide attacks
Article Abstract:
The recent killing of around 50 Palestinians by the Israeli police and army will spark off suicide bomb attacks in Israel, according to Marwan Barghouti, general secretary of Palestinian political movement Fatah and a senior lieutenant of Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat. Palestinians are deeply concerned by Israel's actions, and this will prompt Hamas, which has already undertaken suicide bomb attacks in 1996, to take further action.
