Police in gunfight with armed protesters

There have been violent demonstrations in Pakistan against the US military action in Afghanistan. In Quetta, Pakistan, there was gunfire between police and armed protesters, leading to one fatality. President General Pervez Musharraf states that the protesters represent only a small minority of Pakistanis.

Mysterious journey of Taliban's 'Mullah with a human face.'

There is little detailed information about the visit to Islamabad, Pakistan, of Mullah Abdul Wakil Muttawakil, who is, or was, Afghanistan's Foreign Minister. There have been reports that he intended to present peace proposals to the US via Pakistan, but this has been denied by the Taliban's supreme leader, Mullah Muhammad Omar.

North Korea ready for war, warns top defector

Article Abstract:

North Korea is making extensive preparations for war with South Korea, according to Hwang Jang Yop, a senior member of the North Korean Worker's Party who defected to South Korea. There is an all-embracing atmosphere of war in North Korea, and the country's leaders have drawn up a detailed strategy for invading South Korea. This includes the seizure of strategic facilities in South Korea by 100,000 commandos, followed by a full-scale motorized invasion.
