New recruits given a more business-like approach to training

Article Abstract:

Accountancy is a changing profession which introduced a new syllabus in May 1990 stressing business aspects. Competence-based standards are being developed. A feasibility study examined the possibility of a practical test instead of examinations. Over half work outside public practice. Full-time courses are available as well as the traditional method of training after work. Smaller firms find intensive training inconvenient when it comes at the busiest time in the office.

Who dares to say nobody wins

Article Abstract:

Price Waterhouse has had to organise its involvement in overseeing the running of the National Lottery very carefully. It is using partners from eight offices to cover the live television draw, which comes from a range of different locations, and has to make contingency plans in case the partner originally selected cannot attend or the location of the draw is changed at the last minute. The company also has a number of behind-the-scenes responsibilities.
