Night and the city

Article Abstract:

The case of the rape by at least nine young men of the 'Central Park Jogger,' a wealthy young white woman, in Apr 1989 continues to attract extensive publicity. This will increase with the forthcoming release of Raymond Santana, one of five black and Hispanic young men who received jail sentences of five-10 years for the crime. The crime is still seen as being one of the worst ever in New York, and is thought to have sparked off a lot of the racial tension which now exists.

NYPD nights

Article Abstract:

New York policemen and policewomen face considerable danger every time they attend an incident, and for this reason use the 'buddy' system, always operating in pairs. They spend a lot of time observing, and often come across incidents unexpectedly. However, they do not hesitate to shoot when necessary, and realise that they cannot be too personally affected by the many tragedies they have to deal with.
