Are the republicans on the brink of decommissioning their weapons?

Article Abstract:

It is expected that after the elections on June 7, 2001 there will be some major negotiations regarding the decommissioning of IRA weapons. Issues concerning the political situation in Northern Ireland are presented, with reference to the cessation of military operations and the continued violence of drug-dealers and shootings in the backstreets.

Astonishingly, Mr Adams and Mr Trimble share a common aim

Article Abstract:

It will be necessary to exert a considerable amount of pressure on unionist leader David Trimble and on Sinn Fein leader Gerry Adams before the peace process in Northern Ireland can begin to make progress again. At present, the stances of these two men are totally incompatible. Both are personally concerned to make progress, but they are being prevented from doing so by hardliners in their parties. They also face individual problems, with Trimble having to address a sharply divided unionism and Adams unable to persuade the IRA to consider decommissioning.

On a dark shore, police comb the sands where a mother's bones are said to lie

Article Abstract:

Jean McConville was killed in 1972, and her body was never recovered. She was 'executed' by the Irish Republican Army (IRA) leaving ten orphan children, since they had already lost their father the year before. One of Mrs McConville's daughters is seeking her body at Templeton Beach, near belfast, Northern Ireland, together with police and thers. The IRA has revealed the approximate whereabouts of the grave, but the body has yet to be found.
