Pastor Georgi Vins

Article Abstract:

Pastor Georgi Vins qualified as an engineer after moving to Kiev, Russia, with his mother after the second world war. He became involved in the Baptist Church, and was one of the leading figures in the Baptist Church's efforts to resist state pressure. He began working as a pastor, even though he had no formal theological training, and became general secretary of the Council of Churches which was set up as an underground body in 1965. He was sentenced to three years' imprisonment in Nov 1966, and was imprisoned again between 1975 and 1979. He was expelled to the US in Apr 1979.

Archbishop Volodymyr Sterniuk

Article Abstract:

Priest Volodymyr Sterniuk joined the novitiate of the Redemptorist Order in Belgium in 1927. He studied theology in Louvain, Belgium, and became a full priest in 1931. He then undertook missionary work in western Ukraine, and during the second world war was sentenced by the Nazis to five years in labour camp. He qualified as a medical assistant in 1959, and was secretly consecrated as bishop of Peremysl, a diocese which crossed the border between Ukraine and Poland, in Jul 1964.

Archbishop Bronislaw Dabrowski

Article Abstract:

Priest Bronislaw Dabrowski entered the Orionist Order in 1935 and studied for a time in Italy before returning to Poland in 1939. He was ordained priest in Jun 1945, and in 1949 was appointed director of the secretariat department concerned with religious orders. He was consecrated assistant bishop of Warsaw, Poland, in Mar 1962, and was elected secretary of the episcopate in 1969. He became a titular archbishop in Jun 1982.
