Planning executive pensions disclosure
Article Abstract:
Companies in the UK have been putting considerable pressure on the government to reduce the likely impact of the Greenbury Committee's plans for disclosing the true costs of executive pensions. This comes as accountants make known the impact full disclosure will have on a company's financial position. The recommendations would greatly increase the cost of genuinely earned increases, and would put an end to the tradition of increase directors' pay in order to boost pension entitlements before retirement.

Changing the unacceptable face of privatisation
Article Abstract:
The UK government is introducing measures designed to give privatisation a more positive image among the general public. Privatised utilities are being encouraged to point out the benefits of privatisation to ordinary customers, emphasising lower prices and improved services. Government ministers will focus on the key issues of prices and services, rather than addressing more theoretical aspects of privatisation.
