Who needs who as Mr Blair and the Queen get together

Article Abstract:

Significant changes have taken place in the relationship between UK Prime Minister Tony Blair and the Queen since summer 1997. Those responsible for the Labour party's image have gained more influence over the Royal Family, and the Labour party now plays a key role in guiding and shaping the Royal Family. Blair recognizes that the Royal Family can play a key role as a uniting and non-political symbol at a time when the future of the UK seems increasingly uncertain.

'Power-crazed' Tony Blair needs a better reason to centralise control

Article Abstract:

Ann Widdecombe is a politician from the United Kingdom Conservative Party who has attacked prime minister, Tony Blair, for being power-crazed. Blair has been criticized by others for using a large number of advisers and overruling policies of government departments. Here, Blair is behaving in a similar way to a former Conservative prime minister, Margaret Thatcher. It was clear what Thatcher wanted, and she had a vision of the future. The Blair government has focused more on how to sell its policies than on the policies themselves. There is a need for the government to develop a sense of purpose.
