Remedial lessons for Tony
Article Abstract:
UK Prime Minister Tony Blair's plans to offer additional tuition for talented children fail to take into account the fact that all schools should be designed to meet all possible educational needs. It is important to recognize that there are many different academic requirements among any group of children. Schools should be improved for all pupils, rather than funds being directed towards specific groups. In any case, singling out talented pupils may be counter-productive, as these pupils may resent being seen as different from their peers.

Say goodbye to your local GP
Article Abstract:
Nurses, rather than general practitioners (GPs), are set to become the first point of contact for people seeking National Health Service treatment in the UK. The government believes that establishing a system in which patients can contact nurses by telephone or the Internet will ensure that those with minor conditions do not take up GPs' valuable time. Only the more difficult cases will be referred to GPs. Nurses have welcomed this shift in emphasis, but GPs have been more cautious, fearing that their autonomy will be threatened.
