Prince Mcwayizeni Israel Zulu

Article Abstract:

Politician Mcwayizeni Zulu was the most senior member of the Zulu royal family after King Goodwill Zwelithini. He became regent to King Goodwill in 1968 at the age of 36 following the death of King Goodwill's father, his brother. When King Goodwill ascended to the throne in 1971, Mcwayizeni announced that Mangoshuthu Buthelezi, leader of the Inkatha Freedom Party and a Zulu prince, would not participate in a proposed royal council. This prompted a rift with King Goodwill that lasted until 1994.
