Rubber rings the changes

Article Abstract:

Rubber is becoming an increasingly popular material for consumer goods in the UK. There is growing awareness that rubber is sustainable, organic and biodegradable, thus fitting in very well with the trend in fashion towards natural products. Slough Rubber Co, one of only four small dipping plants left in the UK, is working with designers on a range of new consumer products in rubber, including an inflatable bicycle saddle and a humane jockey's whip. The work of young designers seems to be strongly influenced by fetishism, especially in fashion.
