Rx tales strike nerve in Detroit

Article Abstract:

The editorials of Detroit Free Press Bob Talbert created controversy when he described the difficulties which pharmacy customers face when having their prescription orders filled. Talbert described how he had to wait five hours to get his prescription from a Detroit-area chain pharmacy. His other editorials, however, presented examples of superior services provided by independent pharmacies. Most pharmacists are overworked and the main reason for poor pharmacy service is the very low reimbursement rates which insurance companies pay to pharmacies.

This pharmacy's super, natural

Article Abstract:

A pharmacy department was added to natural supermarket Nature's Northwest in Lake Oswego, OR. Suzanne Rosenberg, who runs the new department, explained that one of its aims is to eliminate the barriers between conventional and complementary medicine since both approaches work for patients' benefits. The complementary relationship between the two approaches may be established by recommending to patients herbs and vitamins that can help relieve the side effects of Rx medications or replace depleted nutrients brought by such medications.
