SA leaders stand by as death marches on

Article Abstract:

Mr de Klerk and Mr Mandela seem powerless to stop slaughter in South Africa. There have been more than 800 political killings since Jun 01, 1993. The ANC's military wing Umkhonto we Sizwe, known as MK, is no longer prepared for fighting. Mr de Klerk's forces are weak in practice. He appointed General Georg Meiring, who believes the war against communism has not ended, overall chief of the South African Defence Force (SADF) from Oct 1993. In 1992 Meiring organised the intelligence scheme to smear the ANC. The police force demonstrates no awareness of the problem of solving murders.

SA killing machines is still ticking over

Article Abstract:

Black South Africans are not more responsible for violence than whites. Security forces have used a strategy deliberately designed to turn blacks against blacks. In the 1970s South Africa got foreign, black rebels to fight for it. In South Africa a secret security police unit, the Askaris, supplied intelligence on ANC military activities and ANC members were killed. The ANC concentrated on internal action rather than guerrilla war. The SA Defence Force (SADF) used the Zula Inkatha movement to kill for it.

ANC radical softens his line

Article Abstract:

Chairman of the South African Communist Party Joe Slovo, 63, believes majority rule does not provide a practical answer for South Africa and thinks that civil servants should be guaranteed their jobs and pensions. ANC militants object to his ideas. Mr Slovo feels compromise is essential to further democracy and that concessions need not conflict with principles. He thinks an interim government will exist by the end of 1993, with compulsory power-sharing.
