Sainsbury swaps food for politics

Article Abstract:

The Sainsbury family will give up control of the Sainsbury's supermarket business as a result of the decision by Lord Sainsbury of Turville to become a working peer. The family, which controls 40% of the shares, will remain committed shareholders. The decision has been greeted with surprise by City analysts, who had not expected Lord Sainsbury to step down for some years. However, it is also believed that the move will have a positive impact on Sainsbury's, where family involvement has been seen as restricting corporate strategy.
