Shocked Denver mourns its lost children

Article Abstract:

The four-hour gun attack on Columbine High School in Denver, CO, by Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold is now known to have left 14 students and a teacher dead. Several teachers were involved in acts of great bravery as they sought to shield students. It is becoming clear that the social atmosphere of the school, which has one of the strongest academic records of any in the Denver area, left a small number of students feeling excluded and rejected. There was a complex class structure in the school, and some students rebelled against this.
