Silken threads in the city of the dead

Article Abstract:

The ancient city of Varanasi, India, located at the edge of the Ganges, is a place of pilgrimage because of its ghats, one of the most auspicious places a Hindu can be cremated. The ghats themselves are not particularly attractive, but it is interesting to wander in the alleyways of the old part of the city, where the visitor can gain an insight into local life. The city is also famous for its silk, and visitors can purchase inexpensive, high quality silk goods.
