Sinister silence after Burundi coup
Article Abstract:
There is an apparent calm in Bujumbura, Burundi, following the coup d'etat by the army. Massacres by the military in 1995 almost wiped out Hutus, and the ones left behind are staying hidden, whilst the Tutsis are pleased to have a Tutsi President, Pierre Buyoya. There is, however, fear, that rebel Hutus from the countryside will attack the city, having already carried out attacks in the mountains. The deposed President, Sylvestre Ntibantunganya, is still staying with the US Ambassador.

A troubling silence in the library
Article Abstract:
The standard of library services available to secondary school children in the UK varies greatly, according to a report shortly to be published by the Library Association. Many libraries are inadequately stocked and poorly used, even though it is widely acknowledged that a well-stocked library can greatly improve educational achievements. Some councils are now trying to ensure that each secondary school library is now managed by a professional librarian.
