Sir Hugh Casson

Article Abstract:

Architect, artist and writer Hugh Casson studied at St John's College, Cambridge, England, and at the Bartlett School at University College. He worked as a journalist in the late 1930s, and enlisted in the River Thames Fire Service in 1939. He worked in the Research Dept of the Ministry of Town and Country Planning from 1944, and in 1948 was invited to join the team being created to plan the 1951 Festival of Britain. He subsequently formed the Casson Conder Partnership with Neville Conder. He was Royal Academy Pres between 1976 and 1984.

Bill Allen

Article Abstract:

Architect Bill Allen graduated in 1936 from the University of Manitoba's School of Architecture with a Gold Medal. He moved to the UK, where he worked for Louis de Soisson in Welwyn Garden City, where he lived for the rest of his life. He became a building researcher at the Building Research Station near Watford, England, and was Chief Architect there between 1954 and 1961. He was then principal of the Architectural Association School in London, England, until 1966. He was a founding partner in 1962 of Bickerdicke, Allen & Partners.

Patrick Hickey

Article Abstract:

Graphic artist, painter, printmaker and architect Patrick Hickey studied architecture at University College, Dublin, Ireland, and founded the Graphic Studio Dublin in 1962. He was responsible for nurturing many now famous professional artists during the 1960s and 1970s. He later became an ordinary member of the studio, rather than its head, and this was when he undertook his best work. He was one of the leading designers of the new Irish currency notes when Ireland joined the EEC in 1974.
