Summer surprises

Article Abstract:

There are a number of exotic plants that can be used to add interest to gardens in Aug, when gardens can sometimes seem to have lost their freshness. These include the eucryphia, which is originally from Chile and has three species. The hardier of the two commonest species is E. glutinosa, which has flowers up to 6cm across. Other attractive exotic plants include Hoheria sexstylosa, an evergreen shrub from New Zealand which is suitable for gardens with an alkaline soil.

Make a date with your sweet pea

Article Abstract:

Successful gardening involves a considerable amount of forward planning. This is because the timing of tasks such as taking cuttings and sowing seeds can be vital. It is worth purchasing a diary specifically for the garden, noting in it the jobs to be undertaken. These will include sowing sweet peas in pots in autumn, for flowering the following Jun, and dividing the bulbs of Lilium candidum, the Madonna lily.
