Swift, eventually
Article Abstract:
Winning the 1996 Booker Prize was a great delight, according to author Graham Swift. He has received extensive media attention as a result, but feels more able to handle this now than he would have been in 1983, when he was shortlisted for the award. 'Last Orders,' for which he won the Booker Prize, is a very local book, being set in the part of south London where Swift grew up. However, he strongly believes that the key to the universal is the local.

The not-so-shady past of Irvine Welsh
Article Abstract:
Writer Ivrine Welsh comes originally from Glasgow, but over recent years has spent a lot of time in Amsterdam, which has an atmosphere which he finds helpful to his work. He has enjoyed considerable success, with a play being made of his first book, 'Trainspotting,' and is soon to publish his third book, 'Marabou Stork Nightmares.' He is admired for being a pure writer, someone who has succeeded despite a deprived and uneducated background.
