'Robocop' suspended
Article Abstract:
Allegations of misconduct have led to the suspension on full pay of Detective Superintendent Ray Mallon, who had gained widespread admiration for his extremely tough approach to crime in Middlesbrough, England. It is claimed that he passed on secret information about an inquiry into police corruption and that he was involved in activities which could be regarded as criminal. He has denied any wrong-doing. His suspension will raise doubts about the future of tough policing policies in Cleveland, England, and elsewhere.

Do-it-yourself legal action
Article Abstract:
The UK government's plans to remove legal aid for civil cases involving money claims or damages and implement a conditional no win, no fee structure could prompt the emergence of a market in legal insurance. The insurance industry has reacted very positively to the possibility of such a development, emphasizing that up to 18 million Britons already have some form of legal insurance, mainly connected with car insurance. However, some observers believe that legal insurance will be beyond the reach of the poor.
