Teenage love that turned into a nightmare of betrayal and death

Article Abstract:

Diana Zamora and David Graham, childhood sweethearts who planned to marry after graduating from their respective military academies, have confessed to the premeditated murder of Adrianne Jones, a 16-year-old schoolmate of Graham with whom he had a brief relationship. There is evidence which seems to support their confession, and the crime has shocked the close-knit Texan community in which they lived. It seems that both Graham and Zamora will now miss the opportunity to take up promising careers.

Hillary called to cure ills of US health system

Article Abstract:

The US health care system is expected to cost $939 billion (626 billion pounds sterling) in 1993 and 16% of the nation's wealth by 2000. About 36 million have no health insurance. There are no limits on treatment or prescribing. Mr Clinton aims to provide guaranteed cover for all and to keep costs in line with inflation. Large Health Maintenance Organisations may replace small insurers. Doctors may have lower salaries, some hospitals may close and there may be a smaller range of services.

Liberal Boston takes hawkish line on welfare

Article Abstract:

The state of Massachusetts, traditionally regarded as liberal, has set up the strictest welfare system in the US. Under the new system, benefits will be reduced, payments will be stopped after two years and most recipients will be obliged either to find a job or become involved in community service after 60 days. It seems likely that similar measures will now be considered at a national level.
