Terror stalks Egypt's forgotten towns

Article Abstract:

Egypt's government is unable to gain control over Islamic revolutionary groups which are terrorising the country's rural areas, despite despatching a number of different teams, such as the special investigation police and central security forces, to deal with the situation. Revolutionaries are assassinating anyone who helps the police, and the fabric of society is starting to collapse in many places. Many observers now believe that the situation could be improved by introducing political dynamism into the country.

Cairo's dirty war spills across Europe

Article Abstract:

Some sources believe that the Egyptian government is taking action to seek out and eliminate Egyptian Islamist armed groups in Europe which have announced their intention to overthrow the regime of president Hosni Mubarak. Up to 100 state security police have been sent to London to set up a base for 'anti-terrorist' work across Europe, and it is likely that clashes with Egypt's enemies abroad will bring bloodshed.

Cairo puts faith in bullet and bulldozer

Article Abstract:

The Egyptian government is pursuing a policy of collective punishment against communities where Gamaat el-Islamiya, an extremist Islamic group, is thought to be active. Sugar cane plantations have been burnt to prevent members of the group hiding there, and houses have been bulldozed to the ground. Families of wanted men have been arrested and tortured, and many young people have been detained.
