The badfellas never let go

Article Abstract:

The Russian Mafiya has established a strong presence in New York, NY, where it is involved in a wide range of criminal activity. Businesses such as restaurants are used to process drug money, for example, and the Mafiya now poses a serious threat to law and order. In many cases, it exploits vulnerable Russians, especially women, who have come to New York in search of a better life. The Mafiya is particularly hard on women, who are intimidated into submission and dare not seek police protection.

The vanity that led to a $100m bonfire

Article Abstract:

The film 'Cutthroat Island' cost more than $95 million to make, but was removed from general circulation in the US only a short time after its release. It has made losses of more than $100 million, and will probably be the least successful Hollywood film ever. Many observers believed right from the beginning that it would be a failure, but it was still made. This is because its director, Renny Harlin, was desperate for a success.

Her case legalised abortion in the US. She is the very symbol of the pro-choice movement. But now 'Jane Roe' has switched sides

Article Abstract:

Norma McCorvey became famous in the US in 1973, when as 'Jane Roe' she won a case which effectively legalised abortion. She was for many years the heroine of pro-choice campaigners, although she has always had an ambivalent relationship with the women's movement. She has now changed sides completely, becoming a born-again Christian and stating that fighting the case was her greatest sin.
