France's chateaux, which are privately-owned, offer various types of tourist accommodation, ranging from high-quality bed and breakfast establishments to luxury hotels. Spain's state-owned paradors are hotels based in restored monasteries, fortresses, palaces and convents. There are now 86 paradores in the network of Paradores de Turismo de Espana. Portugal has more than 60 state-owned pousadas. These were established in the 1940s, and are all in areas of natural beauty or historical importance.

Article Abstract:

Sikkim was an ancient Buddhist kingdom before it became part of India in 1975. It is still very different from the rest of India, and visitors require a restricted entry permit. Tourists will see ancient monasteries, but access to some areas is prohibited.
