The effect that this woman has had on our national psyche is only just beginning to be gauged

Article Abstract:

Many people are only beginning to appreciate the impact which Diana, Princess of Wales, had on British society after her death. She is being mourned even by those who are not in favour of the Royal Family, and will continue to retain a key role in society, even becoming an icon. The manner of her death was extremely symbolic, reflecting the fact that most ordinary people want to feel part of her life. She was a very modern woman, and her life and death embody many of the themes of the 20th century.

Blood on their hands, says brother

Article Abstract:

Earl Spencer, the brother of Diana, Princess of Wales, who died in a car crash in Paris, France, believes that her death can be directly attributed to the media owners and editors who were so keen to obtain photographs of her. The car in which she was travelling crashed because it was travelling at high speed to escape pursuing photographers. Her death has led to renewed calls for new limits on the media and new invasion of privacy legislation.

The Palace will not be able to cope with a Saint Diana

Article Abstract:

The death of Diana, Princess of Wales, will not bring to an end her unsettling influence on the British monarchy. Indeed, she is now likely to be made into an icon, and as such could affect the stability of the monarchy even more than she did when she was alive. The Royal Family was able to deal with Diana when she was simply refusing to conform to convention, but it will find it much harder to cope with her if she is made into a sort of saint.
