Signed, sealed, then married

Article Abstract:

Prenuptial agreements have become more common in the UK, especially among wealthier people. However, these agreements have not been recognized by the courts. This may change with Lord Chancellor Lord Irvine of Lairg's Modernisation of Justice Bill, due in Oct 1998. Some lawyers believe that the current situation should be allowed to persist, while the Law Society's Family Law Committee supports making prenuptial contracts legally enforceable, as long as both partners have independent legal advice and give full financial disclosure.
