The kindest cuts of all
Article Abstract:
There is a demand from fans and collectors for extended or alternative versions of videos. Reformatting to the original wide-screen ratio is also popular, particularly in sci-fi and horror films. The clearer sound and pictures of laser-disc technology enables the user to freeze-frame films. Laser-discs are divided into chapters which can be accessed instantly without fast-forwarding. Laser-discs offer classic movies with three separate sound tracks, one with commentary. The bimonthly magazine 'Video Watchdog' documents detailed differences of video versions.
