The last word in geek chic

Article Abstract:

Some observers believe that wearable computing is at the leading edge of computing research. The largest financed wearable computing project implemented so far is the Land Warrior programme, under which the US Army aims to use computers to boost the effectiveness of its soldiers in the 21st century. Extensive research into wearable computing has also been undertaken at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Media Lab, where developments include the Startlecam, a camera which automatically records and transmits when physiological responses are reacting to frightening events.

101 uses for an old Amstrad. Well, 1 or 2 ...

Article Abstract:

Many individuals and companies are uncertain about what to do with PCs they no longer use. In most cases, the PCs are simply put away in a cupboard and forgotten about. When they are disposed of, PCs are usually simply dumped in landfills, a solution which could cause environmental damage. It is worth considering alternative disposal solutions. Some manufacturers will take back obsolete equipment, and some offer part-exchange deals. There is also high demand from charities for relatively new computers, printers and faxes.

There's gold in those old computers

Article Abstract:

Redundant computer equipment is much less valuable that it used to be, as it contains fewer precious metals, according to Craig Baron, founder of Precious Metal Industries. This company now receives payment from others wishing to dispose of old equipment, and it handles around 100 tons a month of circuit boards.
