Article Abstract:

The European Union will have to undertake wide-reaching reform before it is in a position to accept new members. It still operates according to the rules set down in the Treaty of Rome, and these will clearly be inadequate for a grouping of 21, or possibly even 26, countries. There will be a number of sensitive issues to address, including membership of the European Commission, the extension of majority voting and the composition of the Council of Ministers.

US insists Taliban chief must be brought to justice

Article Abstract:

The US government has emphasized that it expects Mullah Mohammed Omar, the Taliban spiritual leader who is negotiating the surrender of Kandahar, Afghanistan, to be brought to justice. This stance goes against that of the Afghan opposition, which is seeking to strengthen its hold on the country and prevent further destruction of Kandahar.
