Article Abstract:
A Swissair McDonnell Douglas MD-11 travelling from New York, NY, to Geneva, Switzerland, has crashed into the Atlantic seven miles south of Peggy's Cove, Nova Scotia. It appears that none of the 229 passengers and crew aboard the aircraft have survived. The pilot had reported the presence of smoke in the cockpit, but the cause of the malfunction has not yet been identified. Swissair and American authorities have both emphasized that the crash seems to have been the result of an accident, rather than sabotage.
