There are gardeners. And there are groundskeepers
Article Abstract:
People who focus their gardening activities on tending plants, being aware of where they should be planted and how they should be cared for, can be identified as true gardeners. Those who prefer to focus on keeping the garden tidy, especially mowing the lawn, are really groundskeepers, rather than gardeners. The groundskeeper likes to cut plants down, while the instinct of the gardener is to allow plants to grow, even if they look untidy.

'We Irish are Mediterranean when it comes to gardening, we like our planting free and easy.' (attitudes to gardens in Ireland)
Article Abstract:
The Irish tend to have a very relaxed approach to their gardens, and are not too concerned about keeping everything very neat and tidy, as the British are. Irish gardens have little formal box hedging or topiary, for example, and regard their garden primarily as a place for relaxation, rather than work. Plants tend to differ from those found in the UK too, as Ireland is partly situated in the path of the Gulf Stream.

'A lot of suburban style is boring, boring, boring.' (views on modern garden design)
Article Abstract:
There are many different factors which influence the modern garden, and suburban garden design styles now contain a wide range of ideas. However, a lot of suburban style remains extremely dull. Some garden designers are trying to counteract this by introducing fun elements. People are becoming more open to new ideas as coverage of such trends in glossy magazines and on television increases.
