This crowded isle must come home to the city

Article Abstract:

UK political parties seem to give very little attention to the issue of housing, even though this is a cause for concern for many ordinary people. They also fail to realize that having an effective housing policy can have a positive impact on many other areas of policy. Long-term demographic changes mean that the number of new homes required is rising at a much faster rate than the rise in population, and it could be necessary to add up to 5 million new homes during the next two decades. It is now time to adopt radical approaches to providing new housing, such as converting outdated office accommodation in city centres.

The strange death of political loyalties

Article Abstract:

It is very likely that loyalty to political parties as they are currently recognised will shortly become a thing of the past in the UK. There is now no significant difference between the Labour and Conservative parties, and people no longer regard themselves as belonging to a Conservative or Labour tradition. There has been considerable cultural fragmentation, and political parties no longer serve their traditional role of defining people's stance on key issues.

Martin Luther King's death is still a warning

Article Abstract:

The 30th anniversary of the assassination of Martin Luther King serves as a painful reminder that black activism can still bring considerable dangers. It is clear that there are still people who place a very low value on black life, and blacks who become prominent in public life can still attract negative attention. It is important to realize that an event similar to the assassination of Martin Luther King could still take place today.
