Trapped in your own home

Article Abstract:

Many homeowners are still facing the problem of negative equity, with their home being worth less than their mortgage. It is thought that more than 1.1 million households are in this situation, with the average negative equity being 4,500 pounds sterling. There are also many other people who do not have sufficient equity to move house. This has left the housing market weak and has also limited the mobility of the labour force. Some observers are now calling for direct government assistance to home owners with negative equity.

Moving home, the Fourth Horseman of the Financial Apocalypse, is a nightmare. Here's how to deal with it

Article Abstract:

Moving home can be an extremely stressful experience, bringing many new financial pressures. Pensions could be used as a source of capital to repay mortgage debt, while Personal Equity Plans are an efficient means of saving.

Renting holds upper hand as passion cools

Article Abstract:

Many people in the UK no longer see property as a profitable investment, and home ownership has become less popular. The recession has made potential house purchasers reluctant to commit themselves to long-term debts, although the private rented sector is still growing only slowly. However, British people still tend to opt to purchase a home at a much younger age than is common in other countries.
