This green and threatened land
Article Abstract:
The UK's rural areas have traditionally been seen as beautiful and peaceful, but this is no longer the case. Modern houses are being built on the edges of villages, rural employment is declining and fields and woods are being neglected. The UK government is now set to issue a White Paper on the future of rural England, which must address these very difficult issues. It is now time to introduce policies which will revive the rural economy and allow people to live and work in the same village.

Is there such a thing as a green holiday?
Article Abstract:
Mass tourism can have a severe impact on the environment, according to Prince Charles, writing in the International Herald Tribune and a trade publication entitled Green Hotelier. He makes a number of suggestions about how the impact of tourism on the environment could be reduced. These include converting old buildings into hotels rather than building new high-rise hotels and ensuring that tourist developments take account of the location's history and culture.
