Two gay men and a baby
Article Abstract:
Two gay men from Britain, who are millionaires, have gone to Los Angleses to father children through in vitro fertilization using a surrogate mother. The couple are also hiring nannies to look after the babies. There are obstacles to same sex adults adopting children, though there are increasing numbers of children in government homes and fewer children being adopted. The legal bar is against unmarried couples, rather than gay couples. Others who are discriminated against when it comes to adoption are those with modest means, and those considered too old, despite the need for more parents.

What a state we're all in
Article Abstract:
It is important that parents, rather than schools, bear the main responsibility for the moral education of children. The family, not the school, is the framework for the upbringing of children, and shifting moral education away from the family and towards schools brings the danger of undermining the family unit. The UK government's efforts to give schools a role in disseminating moral values implies that it feels that some parents are incapable of bringing up their children properly.

An epidemic of ageism in the NHS
Article Abstract:
There is a culture of ageism within the UK National Health Service (NHS), with older people being denied access to certain types of treatment, according to Age Concern. This report follows a Gallup poll indicating that one in 20 of 1,600 people over 50 believed that they had been refused treatment on the basis of their age. Ageism is a cause for concern in itself, but it is also clear that there is a deeper malaise within the NHS.
