UK: DELAY TO ELECTRICITY TRADING ARRANGEMENTS

Article Abstract:

It has been revealed that the New Electricity Trading Arrangements (Neta) will have to be delayed until the start of 2001. The computer trading system was due to undergo trial runs on 18 September and to be officially launched on 21 November 2000, however it is not likely to be ready in time. Neta is expected to fundamentally change the wholesale trading of electricity in England and Wales by bringing prices down to the benefit of both consumers and business users. However, the delayed launch of the system means that prices will not be reduced as quickly as planned.
