UK: FREESERVE PREDICTS STRONG ADSL DEMAND
Article Abstract:
The new broadband ADSL services being launched by Freeserve, the leading Internet service provider in the UK, are expected to attract over 100,000 customers in the first 12 months. The Freeserve Plus service, which will be launched on 4 September 2000, offers Internet access speeds of around 5000 kilobits per second, or 10 times faster than current services. Freeserve will initially charge GB[pound] 40 per month for the service, but hopes to reduce this to GB[pound] 30 per month in 2001 and then to under GB[pound] 20. It predicts that BT will be quick to expand ADSL capability to local exchanges nationwide, making ADSL the dominant high-speed platform.

How to find real gems
Article Abstract:
Finding information on the Web is not easy due to the large amount of information that has to be sifted beforehand. Humans are needed to assess whether information is of good quality, and other users can do this. Amazon is a bookseller which uses readers' reviews to inform customers. Etour.com also uses users' reviews to assess sites. ThirdVoice allows users to leave notes at sites, and About.com offers advice from experts on given topics. This latter service involves a return to using authorities for guidance.
