UK: NEW CONTROVERSY OVER BSKYB

Article Abstract:

BSkyB chief executive, Tony Ball, met with the UK's competition and consumer affairs minister on 16 November 1999 in a move which could add to the controversy over probes by the Competition Commission into the satellite broadcaster. The meeting between Mr Ball and Kim Howells is claimed to have violated guidelines imposed by the government that are intended to stop interested parties intervening during competition probes.

EUROPE: PACE NAMED AS TOP SET-TOP BOX MAKER

Article Abstract:

Dataquest, the market analysts, say that Pace Micro Technology has a 2% of market share lead over its chief rivals for set-top boxes in Europe that include Canal Plus, NTL and Sky Digital. It is the third successive year that Pace has been named the top maker of set-top boxes.

UK: DOLPHIN GETS BACKING

Mobile radio network operator Dolphin Telecom has been assured GB 204mn in backing from Canadian parent company Telesystem International Wireless. The backing will be funded in convertible notes via a rights issue.
