Use of crack increases to record level

Article Abstract:

The increasing availability of crack cocaine in the UK has brought usage of the highly-addictive drug to around the same levels as heroin, with 1% of 16 to 29-year old admitting to have taken the drug. However, the real figures are likely to be higher, since many users of crack tend to lie about their addiction. A wider range of social groups is starting to use the drug, which is also widely available in clubs. The drug causes mental health problems ranging from mild depression to schizophrenia-like symptoms, due to the long period of low-level euphoria following the short high.

A victim of perjury and prejudice, but still he is demonised and despised

Article Abstract:

It has proved hard to reverse the public perception of Winston Silcott, who was cleared in 1991 of the murder of PC Keith Blakelock at the Broadwater Farm riot in Oct 1985, as an evil monster. He remains convicted of another unrelated murder, and those who are prejudiced against him still link this fact with Blakelock's murder. He is still seen as a symbol of evil, even though it was found that evidence against him had been fabricated.
