Walter Bishop Jnr
Article Abstract:
Pianist Walter Bishop was encouraged by his father to establish a career as a jazz pianist. His career flourished, and he recorded for Miles Davis in 1951. He joined alto saxophonist Charlie Parker, and for a period during the 1950s his career did not progress because he was addicted to heroin. However, he managed to shake off his addiction, and during 1959 led the Monday night jam sessions at the New York jazz club Birdland.
