Waltzing out of apartheid's long shadow

Article Abstract:

David Moerane, 23, has won many ballroom dancing competitions in South Africa since he was 10. He belongs to the African Dance Academy and attends classes under Jabu Vilakazi in Soweto. He helps with the nightly teaching of the Viennese waltz, quick-step, tango and foxtrot. He has competed against whites since 1991 but they have a separate organisation. He has yet to complete his final school examinations as school is often disrupted by ANC comrades who beat up the principal.

Whites vote 'to do the right thing.' (vote to abandon apartheid in South Africa)

Article Abstract:

The referendum by whites in South Africa held on March 17, 1992 resulted in a vote for black political empowerment and represents a significant change of heart and a striving for long term peace. Archbishop Desmond Tutu said that they had done what they knew in their hearts to be right. Blacks will have the right to vote as equals to whites. The victory by F W de Klerk was said by the voters to be the fear of letting the barbaric right immerse the country in a sea of hatred.
