Article Abstract:
The referendum by whites in South Africa held on March 17, 1992 resulted in a vote for black political empowerment and represents a significant change of heart and a striving for long term peace. Archbishop Desmond Tutu said that they had done what they knew in their hearts to be right. Blacks will have the right to vote as equals to whites. The victory by F W de Klerk was said by the voters to be the fear of letting the barbaric right immerse the country in a sea of hatred.
