The Royal Institute of International Affairs has a Chatham House Conference Unit which matches experts to interested business audiences, and these conferences can also serve as professional job hunting forums for delegates. Lacy Curtis-Ward, head of the unit, says it is a marketing organization. In 1995, the unit sent 600,000 letters to potential attendees. Fees range from 400 to around 1,500 pounds sterling, and academics can get a 75% discount.

War and peace in Laos

Vientiane, the capital of Laos, presents evidence of the country's colonial past, including its own Arc de Triomphe. The city's attractions include the Museum of the Revolution and That Luang, the country's most holy Buddhist site. Visitors to Laos should also see Luang Prabang, the old royal capital, where Buddhism is very dominant, and Vang Vieng, which has enormous dark caves and green rice fields.
