We are all investors now: so give us the full facts

Article Abstract:

Many Britons now have some wealth to manage, and this makes it very important that they are able to make an informed decision about financial services. However, there are difficulties associated with making an informed decision, including the fact that it can be many years before it is possible to assess the effectiveness of a financial product. Furthermore, there is a lack of independent advice. Against this background, the Financial Services Authority's new initiative to assist savers in selecting the best financial products is to be welcomed.

Why patients get a raw deal from private health care

Article Abstract:

Standards of patient care in the UK's independent hospitals are generally lower than those in National Health Service hospitals. The private healthcare sector is dominated by BUPA Hospitals, General Healthcare Group and Nuffield Hospitals, and this means that there is insufficient competition to drive up standards. Furthermore, many independent hospitals are too small to be run efficiently. In many cases, more emphasis is placed on the decor than on standards of treatment and care.
