'We have taken back New York block by block.' (moves to crack down on crime)
Article Abstract:
There has been a considerable decline in the crime rate in New York over recent years, and the city is now attracting politicians, police officers and senior officials from across the world who want to learn from its success. The main driving force behind this trend has been mayor Rudy Giuliani, who has particularly focused on 'quality of life crimes' such as offensive begging and graffiti. There have also been some negative aspects of this drive against crime, with homeless people, for example, complaining that they have been forced off the streets and into shelters where there are problems with violence and disease.

They do drugs. They have sex. They're the child stars of a new film. From Disney
Article Abstract:
The film 'Kids,' which was written by Harmony Korine and directed by Larry Clark, has attracted considerable controversy. It deals with sex, drugs, alcohol, HIV and violence, and shows the harsher sides of the life of teenagers in New York. It is currently the property of Miramax, which is in turn owned by Disney, which is uncertain about having associations with a film of this kind. It is in fact a brilliant film, showing how teenagers can indulge in adult pursuits but have very little attention from their parents.

'They're poisoning our kids.' (impact of gangsta rap)
Article Abstract:
Rap music has become extremely popular in the US, with sales of more than $400 million in 1994. However, it is now being increasingly criticised, especially by prominent black people who believe that gangsta rap music is blighting the lives of young black people. They claim that this music promotes drugs, guns and misogynistic sex.
