Why this war in Afghanistan will redraw the map of Europe

Article Abstract:

The ways in which military action against Afghanistan will bring about changes in Europe are considered. It is unlikely that the UK's close links with the US will distance it from continental Europe. Indeed, Prime Minister Tony Blair's influence in Europe will probably increase.

We know what Europe is for, but what is it against these days?

Article Abstract:

The ending of the Cold War has left Europe in search of a cause to which it can be opposed. The US is one possible cause, but this seems out of place in the light of the terrorist attacks of Sep 11, 2001. It is now time to construct a strong Europe without the assistance of a clear cause to oppose.
